Things To Do

There are lots of places to visit in the local area and our holiday apartment is the ideal base for exploring, walking, fishing, sight-seeing, culture or just relaxing. We provide tourist information, maps and guide books so you can plan your days out.

From your doorstep you can explore the Isle of Whithorn and Burrow Head on foot. There’s lots to discover a short walk from our holiday home.

In the village are the ruins of St Ninian’s Chapel which marks the start of the Pilgrimage route to St Ninian’s Church in Whithorn whilst the Witness Cairn commemorates the arrival of St Ninian to the shores, it was erected in 1997 inside the ruined walls of the old lifeboat station.

The square white tower you can see on the headland is the Cairn which has been an aid to navigation for many years. From this point there are magnificent views of the Lake District, Isle of Man and the Kirkcudbright coast and you may even be lucky enough to see dolphins, porpoises or seals.

A few ideas of things to do…

Portpatrick is worth a visit whilst in the Rhins of Galloway. The village has a very pretty harbour with boats trips and fishing charters available and Portpatrick Lifeboat is based here together with the RNLI shop and museum on the harbourside. There are gift shops, a general store and post office and many places to eat and drink

The apartment could not be bettered, everything to hand, clean and comfortable. We have been so lucky with the weather and had some fabulous walks – coastal, woodland, open fields, just acres of inspiring scenery then coming home to be fed and watered at the Steam Packet. A really excellent restorative week. Thank you.
